Possible Symptoms of
Amenorrhea
Symptoms of amenorrhea
include absence of periods, increased facial hair, deeper voice,
decreased armpit hair, pubic hair and breast size and secretions
from the breast.
Amenorrhea occurs
when there is not enough hormones in a woman’s body to stimulate
menstruation. This condition is associated with malnutrition, as
with anorexia nervosa, or when excessive exercise puts extreme
nutritional demands on the body. Stress, rapid weight loss and a
low concentration of body fat can also have a negative effect on
normal menstruation. Amenorrhea can also be a sign of serious
disorders of the ovaries, pituitary gland or hypothalamus.
Beneficial
Dietary Supplements
Progesterone has been
shown to induce normal menstrual bleeding in women with
secondary amenorrhea.
Vitex Fruit (Chaste Tree Berry)
Several studies are reporting that agnus castus fruit, also
known as chaste tree berry (Vitex), helps alleviate symptoms of
PMS. The compounds in this substance have effects that are
similar to female hormones. One study reported that homeopathic
preparations containing agnus castus helped women with irregular
periods, but at this time Chaste tree berry should not be used
by women who wish to conceive or who are sexually active and not
using a reliable form of birth control.

Blue Cohosh stimulates menstrual flow.

Dong Quai:
Dong Quai, one of the most important of the Chinese tonic herbs,
is used as a nourishing blood tonic and to regulate the
menstrual cycle. Dong Quai has been used for centuries by Asian
healers to balance female hormones and to prevent the
troublesome symptoms of menopause and PMS. Clinical research has
indicated that Dong Quai also contains antispasmodic compounds
that aid in relaxing muscle tissue, explaining its effectiveness
in treating menstrual cramps.
What is the advantage of Dong Quai?
The risks and long term effects of HRT (Hormone Replacement
Therapy) are well known, while studies on soy-based products
show conflicting and unsubstantiated results. Research has show
that Dong Quai is extremely effective in providing long term

the end of the treatment period.
